Flower Arrangements
Flower arrangements bring joy and happiness in every room they adorn. However, many find flower arrangements daunting. They feel they do not have the skills to complete. On the contrary, flower arranging is easy and fulfilling.
Flowers for Health and Happiness
Studies have shown that simply looking at or receiving flowers can boost your mood, as this study from Rutgers reported...
This study found that participants who received flowers reported to be happy. However, those who received other items such as candles were not. They also found that the more flowers older adults received the happier they were. They also outperformed those who did not receive flowers on memory test! Wow!
How to Cut Flowers For a Vase
Cut all your stems off at least 1 – 2 inches at a diagonal to give them a good way to take in water. Remove all leaves that will be below the water level to protect from bacteria growth in your water.
You may need to cut the stems shorter depending on where they are going in the arrangement. Eyeball the stem against the arrangement to give you an idea of the length you need. Always start longer, it’s easy to cut more… but once too short you cannot go back.
I love this article from Susan Martin. She shares some of her favorite long-lasting varieties you can grow yourself as well as tips to make your bouquets last longer!
Flower Arranging Supplies
The general belief is that you need to be a florist or a designer to arrange flowers. Along with that pedigree you need to have an arsenal of tools to aid in your styling. That is simply not true. Flower arranging supplies do not have to be fancy or expensive. If you have scissors, water and a vessel you can design a stunning flower arrangement.
The most important element to your arrangement besides flowers is the vessel. Arrangements can be made in a variety of containers. Probably you have most of these in your home right now!
