Creating a fall tablescape can be challenging and daunting, especially when a large crowd is coming. Making everyone feel welcomed and at home is always a priority for me. I am sharing a few tablescape ideas to inspire your creative juices for your celebration.
Incorporating the colors of fall that are bursting around me is always inspiring. The trees hurt my eyes with the beauty that God is producing for us. Creating a fall tablescape is the perfect way to bring the beauty of the outdoors into your home.
I am creating 3 different fall tablescape ideas for you. A neutral, a traditional fall color palette, and a Thanksgiving tablescape
Neutral Fall Tablescape
My first inspiration is a tablescape in a neutral palette. I adore greens they seem to go with every season. Spring, summer, fall, and winter. Green seems to be timeless.
Place Setting Ideas
I started with a simple leaf placemat that is made out of faux green leaves.
⬇️ Below are my favorite placemats from Pier 1, including the one shown. They wipe up so easily after meals!
Next, came a silver charger. On
Finally, a simple white pumpkin. I love that most grocery stores are carrying white pumpkins now! I always add a couple to each shopping trip for the unexpected get together.
Elegant Fall Centerpieces
For my neutral fall centerpiece, I used a decorative cabbage I purchased at my local nursery. I placed it in a container I had left over from spring. You could use a basket or a terra cotta pot that you have on hand.
I then placed clippings from my hydrangea bush around the decorative cabbage. I also scatter them around the table filling in any gaps, along with a few extra white pumpkins. Gathering a few acorns that are so abundant right now are an unexpected surprise and adds an additional natural touch.
I added a few grapevine orbs that add a rustic touch. I used two different sizes to help layer the centerpiece.
Using seasonal salt and pepper shakers are always fun. I adore my squirrel salt and pepper shakers. I found this set years ago on a shopping trip with my Mom. It is fun to bring out seasonal finds from year to year. Link to squirrel salt & pepper shakers.
Adding candlelight is always a nice addition. Link to the candle. It helps to create a warm and inviting ambiance. My pillar candle is placed on top of a mini cake stand. This helps to give the candle height and protect against wax spillage. Link to
After I am finished, for safety sake, I add my glassware. Link to glassware.I am kinda clumsy, so I like to add that last to prevent breakage! ;0)
Traditional Fall Tablescapes
This tablescape is from a traditional fall color palette. The traditional colors of fall are warm and inviting. Terra cottas, oranges, mustards, yellows, and browns. These colors are a timeless tradition for fall.
Place Setting Ideas
For my traditional fall tablescape, I started with a fall leaf placemat that is made out of stacked faux maple leaves. Next, I added a beautiful silver charger to each place setting. Link to
Next came simple white plates. A salad and a dinner plate. Link to white plates. Then I topped each setting with a festive napkin. Link to festive napkins. Finally, a simple white pumpkin
Fall Floral Centerpiece
For my traditional fall tablescape, I used a 28″ wreath that I purchased at Pier 1. I found a similar one on Amazon. Link to
Scattering a few gourds that I purchased at the grocery store helps to fill in any gaps. I love the convenience of purchasing gourds at the grocery store. Most grocery stores have bags of gourds available with an amazing variety at affordable costs. Check out your local farmers market if you cannot find them at your grocer.
For the final touch, A few acorns from the yard adds a natural touch to the table. I also added a few grapevine orbs that add a rustic touch. Link to grapevine orbs. I used different sizes to help create added texture to the table setting.
Again, in this table setting, I am using seasonal salt and pepper shakes. I love pulling out my seasonal finds from year to year. It is like opening a Christmas present! Link to squirrel salt & pepper shakers.
In this tablescape, I have also added in additional candlelight. Link to candle. It helps to create a warm and inviting ambiance to the warm fall colors.
After I am finished I add my glassware. Link to glassware.
Thanksgiving Tablescape
Thanksgiving, here in America which occurs on the fourth Thursday in November, is based on the colonial Pilgrims’ 1621 harvest meal. My memories of Thanksgiving are filled with yummy smells, lots of families and full tummies!!
We traditionally always have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, a veggie and cranberry salad. Of course, there are the pies… my hubbies famous mile high apple pie and sweet potato pie.
How to Set a Thanksgiving Table
This is a special dinner at our house, so I like to have a table cloth to dress things up a bit. Red is my color of choice because it is so festive. Link to red table cloth
For a large gathering like this… I like to place a plate or placemat down to calculate where my guests will be sitting. This helps me to get perfect spacing between each place setting.
Place Setting Ideas
I started this tablescape again with a simple leaf placemat that is made out of faux maple leaves. These adorable placemats are available at Pier 1. I did not have enough of these for each guest. So, I alternated putting one at each place setting. I had a few extra so I added them in the center of the table for the base of my centerpiece. I then added red chargers at each place setting. Next came simple white plates… a salad bowl/plate and a dinner plate. Link to white plates. Then I topped each setting with a festive napkin. Link to festive Thanksgiving napkins. Finally, a simple white pumpkin and/or a gourd.
Thanksgiving Table Centerpieces
For my Thanksgiving centerpiece, I placed my focal point item which is my large resin turkey.

I then placed a large pumpkin next to the turkey. I purchased a pumpkin that had been growing it’s side, thus making it’s side flat (see picture below). It’s not a traditional upright pumpkin, but it adds so much interest to the tablescape.
On the other side of the turkey, I added a second large pumpkin. Another tip is to look for pumpkins that have interesting stems.
Please note: When you are decorating with pumpkins that have been outdoors, bring them in and give them a good wipe down to remove any dirt. If you live in a colder climate, make sure to bring them in the day before you are going to set the table. They will produce a lot of condensation warming up to room temperature… so give them time to adjust before setting them on your table or you will have a drippy mess!
Inexpensive Thanksgiving Table Decorations
Next, I add in a few of my favorite Thanksgiving decorations. First I add in my pilgrims.
Years ago I found these fabulous turkey candles. I never light them, but I bring them out every year and scatter them around the table.
Now, I add in candles of varying heights around the centerpiece. I add some in the front, side and back.
As I build the centerpiece, I try to look at each guests vantage point, so everyone sitting at the table has something beautiful to look at. I love adding in little surprises in front of each guest. I keep scattering smaller pumpkins and gourds around the table filling in any gaps. Try stacking them on top of the larger ones which will add another beautiful layer of complexity to your centerpiece.
For the final touches, I bring out my Thanksgiving serving pieces that I have collected over the years. It is fun to bring out seasonal finds from year to year.
Such as my turkey salt and pepper shakers. I also have a gorgeous Thanksgiving serving platter for our sliced turkey.
Conclusion
Fabulous fall tablescape ideas are simple, easy and fun. They are the perfect way to welcome the arrival of fall and Thanksgiving into your home.
