Candy Cane Centerpieces
Items needed for this Large Candy Cane Centerpiece:
- 2 vases ~ large and small. The smaller vase needs to fit inside the larger vase (my large vase is 15″ tall x 8″ diameter). Make sure there is a gap between the two vases for the peppermint candy to fit.
- Peppermint candies ( I used Bob’s Sweet Stripes Soft Peppermint Balls) Link to Bob’s Sweet Stripes Soft Peppermint Balls I used 51 ounces approximately 250 pieces for my vase that is 15″ tall x 8″ diameter.
- Candy canes (I used 3 boxes of 12)
- Glad Press’n Seal
- Spatula
- Scissors
- Water (in a pitcher easy to pour)
- Flowers [I used lisianthus (white), dahlias (white and red), stock (red), snapdragons (white), redwood and holly.
Let’s get started! This floral arrangement could be created in a large or small vase, I used a large vase (15″ tall x 8″ diameter)…
To start, I sealed the inner/smaller vase with
Then cut off any excess leaving a small amount at the top.
Now for some fun add your peppermint candies!! I used Bob’s Sweet Stripes Soft Peppermint Balls ~2 LB. I found the peppermint balls on Amazon Prime – they came within 2 days.
Once the bottom is filled, I placed my smaller vase inside the larger vase on top of the candies.
Continue to fill the gap in between the two vases with your peppermint candies.
Make sure to tap down the peppermint candies to remove any gaps.
Now for some fun! Adding festive candy canes to the top of the vase!
I hung the candy canes to the rim of my vase. Three boxes were plenty for a vase of this size.
Once you have placed all your candy canes. Continue adding your peppermint candies in the space between the candy canes and peppermint candies to fill in any gaps.
Once you tap down all the peppermint candies for the final time. Carefully fill your inner vase with fresh water not spilling onto the Christmas candies.
Types of Christmas Flowers
Let the arranging begin! You are now ready to start adding your flowers to your candy cane centerpieces. I started with holly. I used a mix of festive colors that compliment the peppermint candies and candy canes.
All my flowers are from Petal
How to Keep Fresh Cut Flowers Alive Longer
Remember…to cut all your stems at least 1 – 2 inches at a diagonal to give them a good way to absorb water. Remove all leaves that will be below the water level to protect from bacteria growth in your water.
You may need to cut the stems shorter depending on where they are going in the arrangement. Eyeball the stem against the arrangement to give you an idea of the length you need. Always start longer, it’s easy to cut more… but once too short you cannot go back.
Next, I added snapdragons in a beautiful white.
Aren’t these dalhias… amazing!! The festive red almost hurts your eyes!! The blooms are huge and absolutely breathtaking!!
Now, I am adding in beautiful white dahlias.
Next, I am adding breathtaking stock in a festive reddish ~ pink.
Lisianthus is a great flower to fill in all the gaps and add softness to your arrangement. It is one of my favorite flowers.
At this point, you need to be turning your vase looking at all sides to see where there are holes and gaps that need to be filled.
Finally, to add a festive touch, I am adding redwood branches. I adore the tiny pinecones at the tip of each branch
To finish off the centerpiece, I am adding a few branches of the redwood around the base of the arrangement.
Adding festive battery operated lights gives your arrangement a holiday glow!
Placing white tiny houses is beautiful against all the greenery.
Voilà!! You have a super festive and fun Christmas floral arrangement, the perfect centerpiece!!
